Common Questions
Here we've got a list of the most common questions about the
service.
How does it work?
Please see our how it works page more
details.
What are the mininum phone
requirements?
You don't need anything fancy - just a phone that supports diverting calls.
To check if your phone supports diverting (all contract and most pre-pay
phones do), try diverting calls to your landline. Enter **21*your
number# and then pressing your call button. Try calling your mobile -
if the diversion has worked, your home phone should ring. Enter ##21# and
then call to cancel the diversion.
You'll need a dual band phone, but more are anyway.
To roam in the USA and Canada you
will need a triband phone. You will also need your phone unlocked.
Please see our unlocking page for more
information.
Some countries are 'credit only', what does
this mean?
For these destinations, we can't deliver you a SIM card. You will only be
able to use the uk2abroad service in these countries if you already have a
SIM card in that country, or plan to buy a SIM card locally
when you go out there.
I have a pay-as-you-go phone, can I still
use the service?
Yes! As long as you can divert calls, both contract and
pay-as-you-go users can use the service.
How do I add more credit to my
account?
Once you sign up, you will add credit to your account by logging in to the
uk2abroad web site and using your credit or debit card. If you won't have
access to the Internet while you're abroad we strongly recommend adding a
larger amount of credit to your account initially.
How much will it cost to make calls within the
country I'm roaming in?
This depends on the country you're in. For many countries we have listed
the prices on the web site. You will be charged the appropriate rates for
your local SIM card.
How will I receive incoming calls?
People can call you on your UK number as normal. When you're abroad, you
can also give out your local number, letting people within the country call
you cheaply as well - you get the best of both worlds. For more information
about this, please see how the service works.
